A SIXTY-year-old man who had denied exposing himself during a trip to Carlisle has been convicted of the offence.

Paul Michael Millar was convicted after a trial at Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates’ Court.

He committed the offence on Monday, August 10, last year, the court was told.

The charge states that he “intentionally” exposed his private parts with the intention that a person would be caused alarm and distress.

After hearing the evidence, and finding the defendant guilty of the offence, magistrates imposed a community order.

This includes a requirement for the defendant, of Gilesgate, Hexham, must complete an accredited programme that will last for 35 days.

He was also fined £180 and told that he must pay the prosecution costs of the case, assessed as being £600.

Millar must also pay a £95 victim surcharge.

He must also now register with the police at Hexham Police Station in accordance with the 2003 Sexual Offences Act.
