A MAN'S appeal for help finding the mystery lady who tended to him at the scene of a serious traffic collision has had a happy ending.

Dez Forster suffered shattered legs and had to learn to walk again following the accident near Crosthwaite nearly four years ago.

Mr Forster, 59, was initially looked after at the scene by members of the public who stopped to help. Although he is in touch with two of those who assisted him, a lady, whom he knew only as Eve, has remained a mystery to him - until now.

After The Westmorland Gazette issued an appeal last week, Eve, who would prefer not to have her full name included, contacted the paper. Mr Forster has now been put in touch with her so he can finally express his gratitude for her help almost four years ago.

"I'm over the moon," he said.

“I’m surprised how quick you’ve found her. Like I say, I’ve tried over three years, going through the police and everything.

“I keep in touch with the other two witnesses every year. It’s just to send merry Christmas, happy New Year texts."

Mr Forster, from Warrington, was riding a motorcycle along the A5074 in 2017 when he was a hit by a fuel tanker overtaking a cyclist. He suffered serious injuries and spent three months in a wheelchair.

His son James was riding a motorbike behind him at the time of the incident and also suffered injuries, although these were less severe.

Eve and two other people stopped at the scene and tended to Mr Forster as he lay immobile.

“They took care me of straight away," said Mr Forster.

"Eve was the first one.

“She’s saying ‘stop the traffic, get a pillow for his head’.

"She wouldn’t let me move. She kept talking to me all the time so I wouldn’t go unconscious.

“I do remember starting to sort of drift off, but she kept talking to me and asking me questions. She just kept me awake basically.”

Mr Forster was pleased his search had finally been brought to a conclusion and thanked the Gazette for its help.

“I just went on to local newspaper sites and came across yours, and I thought, ‘last chance saloon, I’ve got no way of trying to find her'," he said.

"And you’ve gone and found her when the police couldn’t help me in three years.

"It’s fantastic, I can’t wait to email her."
