MAIL readers reacted after a woman criticised a homemade sign warning visitors against travelling into a Furness village.

The sign at Rampside says: ‘Lockdown three, residents only.’

Sheila Wright, from Roose, described it as ‘cheeky and non-communal’.

Mail readers had their say after reading the story.

Jamie Wilson said: “People are entitled to go out and exercise - nice little bike ride down the old line and through Rampside. Obviously one of the residents has too much time on their hands. Guess that means the people of Rampside aren’t ordering food from takeaways too then? Or milk from the milkman? And obviously don’t want their post delivered."

Katie McGuire said: “I live at Roa Island and did have a little chuckle at the sign. However, it really is like Piccadilly Circus some days but, then again, if people are just exercising in their local area and walking down the old line etc. they aren’t doing anything wrong. I think it’s just because people are staying local rather than going up the Lakes, and so it seems busier than usual.”

Amanda Newby said: “My mum lives at Rampside... I do not. But she is my ‘support bubble’, so yes I visit Rampside and I am not a resident. The sign made me laugh!”

Gillian Woodend said: "It’s busy wherever you go at the moment, people taking a well-deserved walk. The coast road was busy yesterday but that’s only to be expected - staying local as we are told to do."

Sarah Hill said: "Hope whoever made the sign isn’t leaving Rampside for any reason other than for work."
