Tributes have been paid to a young man from Whitehaven who sadly died on Friday following an incident at Lillyhall industrial estate.

Paul Coombe and Alan Sharpe and those who work at Coombe & Sharpe Landscaping Ltd have expressed their condolences to Cameron Taylor's family.

A joint statement issued by Mr Coombe and Mr Sharpe, directors said: "We are devastated by his death and are working with the Health & Safety Executive and the Police to establish exactly what happened.

"Although Cameron had only been with our company for just under six months, he had already become a valued and much-loved part of our team.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank the paramedics, ambulance crew, fire brigade and air ambulance crew for responding so quickly and working so hard to try and save Cameron.

"We would ask that you respect the privacy of Cameron’s family at this time and the privacy of Cameron’s work colleagues and friends here at Coombe and Sharpe, as we assist in the investigation process. We will remain closed for two days as a sign of respect to Cameron and will reopen most of our workstreams on Wednesday.

"Our love and prayers are with Cameron and his family."

Cumbria Police, the Great North Air Ambulance Service, the North West Ambulance Service and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, were all called out to the incident which happened at about 10:15am on Friday.

A spokesman for the force said: “Police received a report from the North West Ambulance Service to an incident at a unit at Pittwood Road, Lillyhall industrial estate.

“A 20-year-old man, from Whitehaven, was pronounced deceased a short time later. A joint investigation with the Health & Safety Executive is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident."
