Schools in the area are appealing for electronic equipment to help with their children's learning during this latest lockdown.

Several schools in Cumbria have put out appeals for items for their children including laptops, desktops or tablets.

These can then be wiped clean and reused.

Yvonne Craig, headteacher of Ewanrigg Junior School, in Maryport, put out an appeal on Facebook for electronic equipment.

She said: "If anyone has an unneeded laptop or tablet that can be donated to our school, we would be very grateful to receive it.

"We can then have it wiped and then it can be used to support our children's learning at home.

"Digital poverty is real."

Bransty Primary School, in Whitehaven, is also looking out for equipment.

In a post by Mrs Fearon, from the school, she asks: "If anyone has any unneeded laptop or tablet that can be donated to our school (Bransty Primary) we would be very grateful to receive it."

"We can have it wiped and then it can be used to support our children's learning at home.

"Please ask friends and family. Thank you."

A social enterprise company at Lillyhall has offered to refurbish equipment in order to ensure that children are provided with essential learning aids.

CRL at Lillyhall, formerly Cumbria Recycling Limited, announced that they are working with Children's Services and local schools to ensure any child that is in need of a laptop to work from home is supplied with one.

On a facebook post by Sue Scoon Fryer she said: "If you have any old laptops/desktops which you no longer require and are happy to donate, contact CRL at their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/cumbria.recycling.ltd/

Mark Fryer, from the company, said they would be working out a safe way to get donated laptops refurbished, then given back to people so that they can donate them to their preferred school.

The social enterprise collects and processes materials for recycling, trades those recycled materials and re-invests profits in employee development. Under usual trading they have a factory showroom stocking refurbished items, including laptops.
