Gritters have dealt with 'some of the worst' freezing ice for 'many years' in the last 24 hours.
Cumbria Gritters revealed that 2,200 miles of Cumbria's roads were treated with 176 tonnes of salt on Wednesday night.
A spokesman from Cumbria Gritters said: "Continued snow is making driving conditions hazardous.
"Last night our teams dealt with some of the worst freezing ice we've seen for many years."
