Heavy snow and ice are possible for parts of Cumbria today as a Met Office weather warning is in place.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning, the lowest warning that can be issued, for snow and ice.

The warning came into force at 8am yesterday morning and lasts until 9pm tonight (Thursday.)

The Met Office said heavy snow may affect parts of the warning area, with possible significant travel disruption.

Another yellow warning for now and ice is also in place for Saturday.

The warning starts at 3am on Saturday morning lasting until 9pm that evening.

The Met Office said: "A band of heavy snow may lead to travel disruption."

What to expect:

  • There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
  • There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
  • A small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • A small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become dangerous, posing a greater risk of injury
