More than 40 homes are currently without power, as engineers struggle to come to the rescue due to severe weather.

The power cut was first reported to Electricity North West at about 6.25pm yesterday (December 26), with properties in the Ivegill area of Carlisle left in darkness.

It is believed the outage was caused by "an unexpected incident on [a] high voltage cable."

With yellow weather warnings for wind and rain in place overnight, engineers have been unable to attend the scene to restore power, leaving 44 customers without electricity for more than 12 hours.

A team has been sent this morning (December 27) to fix the issue, and hope to resolve the outage by about 11am.
