A HEALTH expert has spoken of the country’s success in securing a Covid-19 vaccine.
Dr John Campbell, former nursing lecturer and A&E volunteer said that the unprecedented speed of the vaccination’s approval was a boon for the country: “It’s a significant achievement. It’s a major success for the UK.”
Although England will still be subject to EU rules when the vaccine is rolled-out the country has an exemption meaning it is easier to see such medicines approved.
Dr Campbell said: “The UK has got a long lasting exemption which other member nations don’t.”
One school of thought is that the Covid-19 vaccine has been rushed and some are concerned about the safety, however, Dr Campbell disagrees with the claims.
“It emphatically hasn’t been rushed. They’ve gone through all of the stages they would normally go through.
“This is a very thorough job, they’ve just got their act together.”
The jabs from Moderna and AstraZeneca are both in advanced trials.
Speaking of the news that Government will build two "mega labs" to process more Covid-19 tests, he said: "The Government is spending an awful lot of money on testing, I'm not entirely sure that's effective. If someone has symptoms they should self isolate.
He added that might be more cost effective to roll-out vitamin D supplementation.
The Government has begun this process but there are some scientific thinkers who believe the dosage should be higher to strengthen immunity against Covid-19 through the winter.
