The motto at St. Michael’s School, Dalston, is “Let Your Light Shine”. We often talk in school about how our actions and the things we say can brighten the lives of other.
In November we embarked upon two fundraising initiatives: supporting the Royal British Legion in their Poppy Appeal and also raising money for Children In Need.
We were very conscious that we did not want our Poppy Appeal to be just about the snazzy merchandise the children could purchase. So each class took some time to learn about the reasons behind the campaign through activities in English, art and collective worship amongst others.
Our Children In Need event centred around a non-uniform day where the children were encouraged to wear bright colours and took part in all things Pudsey related within their bubbles. Again, we backed this up with learning around the charity including a whole-school live, virtual assembly – an amazing £210.10 was raised.
In the next few weeks we plan on supporting on a more local level with events organised for the CFM Mission Christmas appeal and also a collection week for the local foodbank. We have so much to celebrate and be happy about here at St. Michael’s and we are determined to spread that happiness to others during this challenging time.
