A man has been arrested after he was handed over to police by a group of vigilantes.

The 45-year-old Carlisle man was confronted by members of the Confronted and Caught group on Lowther Street in Carlisle yesterday and was subsequently arrested by police.

The group describe themselves as "a highly established hunting group".

He was arrested on suspicion of:

  • Breaching a sexual harm prevention order;
  • Attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child;
  • Being 18 or over and attempting to incite a girl to engage in sexual activity;
  • Attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming.

He remains in police custody.
