Readers have reacted over the banning of all but essential cross-border travel between England and Scotland which became illegal from 6pm yesterday – in a bid to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The regulations are also set to make it harder to travel in different areas of the country under the newly-introduced Scottish Government system which has five levels of Covid-19 protection.

A breach of the cross-border regulations is punishable by a £60 fine but there are a number of exemptions, such as work, education, feeding an animal and donating blood.

The move had been announced by first minister Nicola Sturgeon this week.
