A Cumbrian photographer is to feature in a book covering all things the Lake District.

After living in Cockermouth until 2010, photographer Rob Knowles moved to the Midlands for his career but was made redundant in July.

Refusing to let the situation get the better of him, Rob decided to move back to where he is happiest – the Lake District.

His journey to becoming involved in Lakes, Fells, Pubs and Things: Yet Another Guide To The Lake District, began last July.

“I was in the Bridge Inn in Buttermere and met the author Martin Gough," Rob said. "He was trying to sell his book on the Yorkshire Dales.

“We were chatting away and got on really well. Nothing more was said, but we were part of the same group on Facebook.

“One day he put something on to say he was doing a new book about the Lakes and would any photographers like to contribute.

“I sent a few and then next weekend I did a few more and he said, ‘I think you should do them all’.”

The 54-year-old, who has been taking photographs since he was 10, is delighted to be involved.

“I’m chuffed to bits,” he said.

“It might be the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me.

“Anyone would love to be involved in a book.

“He (Martin) says he is going to include a list of my photographs and my contact details in the book.”

The 360-page book is due to be released in April.

Accompanying him on his photography journey is his faithful companion of 12 years, his blind Yorkshire terrier, Rosie, who will also be featuring in the book.

Legendary mountaineer Alan Hinkes, who was the first and remains the only British mountaineer to claim all 14 Himalayan eight-thousanders, is to feature in the book.

Cumbrian television broadcaster, author and documentary film maker Eric Robson is also a contributor.
