A west Cumbrian town's library has confirmed the date it is set to reopen.

Cockermouth Town Council has announced that the town's tourist information centre, as well as its library, will be open again from Friday December 4, at 10am.

A number of Covid-secure measures will be put in place to ensure any risks of virus transmission are minimised.

A spokesman for the town council explained: "To welcome you back, library hosts will greet you on arrival and explain our new arrangements.

"There will be clear signage throughout the building to help everyone find their way around safely and hand sanitisers will be located at our entrance and exit points.

"In line with Government regulations, the wearing of face coverings will be mandatory.

"You will be asked for your name and contact details when you arrive to assist with the NHS Test and Trace Programme."

The "select and collect" service will be offered from Cockermouth Library as an alternative to browsing.

Customers can request up to six items of stock of a certain genre or author, if available.

This is not a request service, but is free of charge.

Customers are asked to bring their own carrier bag when collecting their order and book them out on the self-issue machines in the library.
