A SENIOR county politician has encouraged more Cumbrians to nominate their fellow community members for honours, after more than a dozen receive royal recognition.

Cumbria County Council’s chairwoman, Christine Bowditch, said she hoped to see more locals nominated for recognition after 13 Cumbrians were this year included in the Queen’s birthday honours, announced last month.

“Some of those recognised have a long record of exceptional service whilst others this year are in the list as Covid volunteers,” she said.

“As a county we should be so proud and I hope more people are encouraged to nominate others in their community who have made a special contribution.

“If you think you know someone who deserves recognition, please don’t hesitate to put them forward.”

More information on how to make a nomination can be found on the county council’s website.

“Congratulations to all winners,” Mrs Bowditch added. “I’m so pleased that their outstanding efforts and achievements over the years and during this pandemic have been acknowledged with such a special honour.”
