Thanks to the residents of Carlisle, a project is set to receive a helpful donation.

During the summer, all throughout the city were invited to vote for a worthy cause in their community that they would like to see receive a financial boost.

And residents have now had their say, with the Heathlands Project now due to receive a £500 donation from Taylor Wimpey North East's Community Chest campaign.

Dedicated to providing opportunities and support to those with a learning disability, physical disability or mental health issues, the Heathlands Project was the cause which came out on top, receiving an influx of votes since the campaign launched.

The Heathlands team is always looking to raise money in order to continue to provide training and support towards employment in the care field, alongside community integration activities, events and much more.

Like many other organisations, the Heathlands Project has been impacted by Covid-19 and the donation is greatly welcome.

Helen Tuck, group leader at the Heathlands Project, commented: “We’re absolutely over the moon to receive this money, and want to say a huge thank you to both Taylor Wimpey and those who voted for us.

“Throughout lockdown, Heathlands have been providing isolating individuals with online activity, activity books and DVDs in the post.

“We’re currently developing even more online content and have been making weekly contact with those isolating to combat loneliness.

"This donation is hugely welcome, and will give our charity a boost.”

Sarah Northcott, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey North East, said: “We’re enormously proud to be supporting the Heathlands Project and they are truly a worthy winner of our Community Chest initiative for Carlisle.

“We know just how important they are to the local area and hopefully the team will be able to make the most of the funds during this challenging time.”

The Heathlands Project is situated just a 13-minute drive from Taylor Wimpey’s Meadowbrook.

The development offers a selection of three, four and five-bedroom homes, perfect for young couples and families alike.
