A further five deaths among Covid-19 positive patients under the care of the NHS Trust running hospital services in south Cumbria and north Lancashire have been announced today.

As part of NHS England's daily updates on deaths among Covid-19 hospital patients, it was announced this afternoon that the total number of deaths among Covid-19 positive patients at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has risen by five.

Four deaths occured on Saturday, with a further death on Sunday.

No deaths among Covid-19 positive patients in north Cumbria's hospitals have been announced today.

No deaths among Covid-19 positive patients were announced among hospital patients in Northumberland either.

Figures from Public Health England, taken in the past 24 hours, show that a total of 142 people in Cumbria have received at least one lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 test result.

This brings the total number of cases up to 8,055 across the county.

The figures for each district are as follows:

  • Carlisle - 51 positive results in the past 24 hours
  • Copeland - 11 
  • Allerdale - 22
  • Barrow - 9
  • Eden - 24
  • South Lakeland - 25

As the nation remains in lockdown, the government guidance on how to protect yourself andf others continues to be wear a mask, social distance, wash hands, and remain in your home where possible.

Lockdown restrictions include:

  • Not meeting socially with anyone indoors, unless they’re in your support bubble
  • Restrictions on number of people at an outdoor gathering 
  • No travel in the UK or overseas, unless for a specific reason, such as education, work or a caring responsibility
