A Maryport gym is finally set to reopen after being disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Today is set to be the first day back open for the gym at the Wave Centre in the town, which is run by GLL under the Better brand on behalf of Allerdale Council.

A spokesman for the council said: "The gym at the Wave Centre, Maryport will reopen today with Clip 'n Climb activity following next month.

"As part of the phased reopening process, our leisure centres in Workington and Cockermouth, which are also operated by GLL under the Better brand, reopened earlier this summer for some services and activities.

"Members can find out more at: https://www.better.org.uk/leisure-centre/allerdale/the-wave-centre."

The Wave Centre could be overhauled if the council's bid for cash from the Government's Future High Streets Fund is successful.

A swimming pool could be installed in the building as part of proposals which would include a redevelopment of Senhouse Street.

The centre currently also contains a theatre.
