Carlisle City Council has helped dozens of people escape domestic abuse in the past few months.

Thirty four households fleeing domestic abuse were placed in emergency housing since April 1.

A further 65 households facing domestic abuse have also been provided with community support.

This update on the work of the council's homeless prevention and accommodation services is set to be presented to the city council at its next meeting this coming Tuesday, by communities, health and wellbeing portfolio holder Elizabeth Mallinson.

"The service works closely with wider statutory and safeguarding partners to keep people safe," Mrs Mallinson outlined in her report to the council.

Mrs Mallinson added that "this has increased in frequency during the lockdown period."

"Weekly snapshot and comparative trend data [has been] closely monitored and reported in order to ensure that capacity to assist appropriately is maintained."
