A TOWN has enjoyed a visit from the High Sheriff of Cumbria.

Julie Barton visited a number of different premises in Aspatria throughout last week.

The trip included a visit to Aspatria Hornets Rugby Club as well as Aspatria Dreamscheme.

Talking about her visit to the the ruby club, Mrs Barton explained: “I was delighted to visit Aspatria Hornets Rugby Club.

“What amazing work they have achieved in renovating their facilities.

“I was so impressed at how many young people are part of the club.

"The rugby pitch also has the best views of any pitch I’ve seen.”

Aspatria Hornets have been working hard in the community while the rugby season has been cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and are thankful for the all the efforts people have put in.

Posting on social media after the visit, Aspatria Hornets said: “We were delighted to welcome the High Sheriff of Cumbria, Julie Barton to our new facilities at Beacon Hill. We thank her for her visit and hope she can return when we are back playing.”

As well as this, Mrs Barton visited Linda Hunter at the Dreamscheme as well as the food pantry and the war memorial recreation ground.

She said: “I so enjoyed visiting Aspatria this week with acting mayor, Alan Maxwell. Highlights included a visit to Aspatria Dreamscheme with Linda Hunter.

“What a great community youth project. Linda and Alan introduced me to the lovely volunteers at Aspatria’s Food Pantry who have supported so many people locally during the pandemic.

“Other highlights were Aspatria Hornets Rugby, Aspatria War Memorial Recreation Ground with its newly renovated play area, the town’s new memorial garden and a delicious lunch at The Old Bank Tearooms.

“Then I was off to Beacon Hill Community School for an introduction to their amazing, inclusive cycle club with headteacher, Danny Gee.”
