AN APPEAL has been launched after a 42-year-old man was ‘critically’ injured in a collision with a car.

The man had been on an electric bike when the collision with the car took place.

He was transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Lancashire.

The incident happened in Carlisle on Thursday, with police called at 3.27pm.

A spokesman for Cumbria Constabulary said: “We were contacted with regard to a report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the junction between Lindisfarne Street and Linton Street, Carlisle.

“Involved in the collision was an electric bike and a Volkswagen Golf.

“The rider of the bike was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

“The driver and passenger of the Golf were uninjured.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, or anyone going past with dash cam footage or CCTV video of the incident, to contact them.

They said: “We are appealing for witnesses following the collision, and anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage is also encouraged to get in touch.”

The New Linton Holme Inn, which is located on Lindisfarne Street, had to close due to the incident.

They took to social media at 3.48pm on October 22 to announce the closure.

They said: “Hi everyone the pub is shut for now due to a nasty accident outside.

“I’m basically cordoned off. I’ll keep you informed.

The public added messages of support for the injured man on the pub’s Facebook site.

Rebecca Wallace said: “Thoughts and prayers to the people involved.”

Lucy Gill said: “Really hope he’s ok.”

The pub was allowed to reopen later that day.

Carlisle city councillors said they had not received concerns about traffic problems in that area from residents previously.

Councillor Louise Atkinson said: “I send my thoughts and cares to the family.”

And colleague Anne Jefferson said: “I hope everything is ok. The family of the man must be terribly worried, it’s a terrible accident to have happened.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

They would like people to ring PC 2209 on 101, or email sciu@cumbria.police.uk quoting incident number 128 of October 22.
