Silloth is getting a helping hand from Cumbria Tourism as it launches its ‘Attractions and Activities Month’ to help the tourism industry.

The arrival of autumn signifies the beginning of a critical time of year for hundreds of businesses right across Cumbria left reeling by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, with many looking towards local people to continue their strong showing of support for local attractions throughout October and beyond.

Running until October 31, the month of activity is designed to inspire residents to try something new or rediscover an old favourite pastime, with the hope it will help businesses to get through the uncertain final quarter of 2020.

Managing Director of Cumbria Tourism, Gill Haigh, said: “This is a great way for tourism and hospitality operators to join together and show our visitors, while reassuring them about the safety measures we have in place.

“Residents have a real chance to help save businesses and livelihoods yet again too, as they are just as integral to the strength of the county’s economy as visitors from further afield. While visitors returned over the summer, their average financial spend was down, so as the cooler months approach, we really can’t stress enough just how important it is for local people to help to rebuild our damaged economy.”

The range of experiences The Lake District has to offer is hugely varied, from water-based activities like those offered by coastal attractions like The Rum Story and Soldiers in Silloth which strengthens Cumbria’s coastal offering.
