A 21-year-old has been banned from driving after he was caught behind the wheel of a car while over the legal limit for drugs.

Aidan Richard Smith appeared before Workington’s magistrates’ court on Tuesday.

The offence took place on Lawrence Street in Workington.

Smith, of High Road in Whitehaven, was driving a Vauxhall Corsa on March 20 when he had 60 microgrammes of cocaine per litre of blood.

The legal limit is 10 microgrammes.

Smith was represented during the hearing by defence solicitor John Cooper.

He admitted the charge of drug driving.

Smith was fined £245 for the offence.

He was ordered to pay a £32 surcharge to fund victim services.

The court also told him to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service for bringing the case to court.

He was banned from obtaining a driving licence for 12 months.
