Readers have rushed to give speedy well wishes to a nine-year-old Seaton boy that almost lost his eyesight last week.

Ollie Murphy narrowly missed being blinded after a youth threw a deodorant cannister into a fire, which then exploded.

He was left with burns to his face, arms and legs, singeing to his eyebrows and eyelashes and burned clothes.

His mother, Lindsey Gorman, warned schools and parents to remind young people of the dangers of fires and pressurised containers.

She wanted to avoid any other young people ending in the hospital burns unit, or worse.

Lindsey said: “It’s not about getting any children in trouble. I’ve had a really awful few days and don’t want anyone else in that position. I don’t want any parents having to take their children to the burns unit.”
