A Penrith charitable organisation has thanked a local forestry company for their support in realising a potentially life-saving initiative.

Penrith Lions Club, which carries out good works supporting the communities of the Eden Valley, are now producing "message in a wallet" cards - credit card sized alert cards providing essential information for emergency services in case of an accident or sudden illness.

The cards list personal details, contact details, any relevant illnesses, allergies and medications used.

Having immediate access to this information can help emergency workers save precious time identifying crucial details - potentially making the difference between life and death in a medical crisis.

The project, which first got going before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, has been supported by local company AW Jenkinson Forest Products.

The Penrith-based company is the main sponsor of the scheme, which has also been supported by a number of other local companies including Tim Roebuck Opticians, Atkinson Building Contractors and Cranstons.

Penrith Lions Message in a Wallet project coordinator, John Yates said: “We really appreciate the support of A.W. Jenkinson Forest Products.

"Without their help, projects like this would not be possible.

"In a year where fundraising has taken a huge hit with cancellations of events such as Penrith Lions Clubs May Day Carnival, every donation helps.”
