AN APPLICATION for 32 landing lights on the Cumberland Infirmary’s landing lights have been submitted.

Carlisle City Council has received an application for the installation of “green LED lights spaced at 3m” around the perimeter of the pad at Newton Road, Carlisle.

The helipad is used by a number of organisations, most notably the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

On September 17, for example, paramedics helped a 54-year-old man who fell 50 metres down Hanging Stone ridge of Base Brown, above Seathwaite.

The air ambulance was called due to the severity of the fall and possible serious head injuries.

The casualty was stretchered to the helicopter for transfer to the infirmary.
