A REMINDER has been issued to the public about wearing face coverings on public transport.

The UK Government is reminding the public that face coverings must be worn on all forms of transport to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Unless an exemption exists for them, the public must wear a face covering on buses, coaches, the train, aircraft, trams and cable cars.

Fines can be issued to anyone who does not wear a face covering where they are mandatory.

Police officers can issue a £200 fine which can be downgraded to £100 if paid within 14 days.

A spokesperson for The UK Government said: "The evidence suggests that face coverings can help us protect each other and reduce the spread of the disease from someone who is suffering from coronavirus, but not showing symptoms.

"That is why it is important to wear a face covering on public transport and it is required by law.
