Politics has been haemorrhaging trust for a long time now,but the scale of disinformation coming from our so called democracy is getting out of hand.

In a Trump post-truth era, politics has become deceitful on such a grand scale that lying is so normalised we scarcely notice anymore and if we do we just shrug our shoulders and ignore it.

During the last election, for example, the Tories altered video of Keir Starmer to make him look as if he was avoiding answering any questions, the Tory party Twitter account was changed to a fact-checking account - outrageous!

Eighty-eight per cent of Tory online adverts contained misleading info, whereas Labour could only manage 6.7 per cent - no wonder they didn't get into power.

Let's face it, the political system is broken in this country and until we adopt a new way things will only get worse.

"The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it", to quote George Orwell.

At the moment, we have a government saying that it has a mandate to do as they please, as the people have spoken, but has it?

In reality the Tories won less than 44 per cent of the vote and now has an 80 seat majority.

Is this democracy?

In the recent past, Labour polled 35 per cent of the vote and still won a majority (more people didn't vote at all (39 per cent) than voted Labour), while Thatcher and Blair both won landslides with only 44 per cent of the vote.

Not since the 1930s have we had a government that the majority voted for.

Change is long overdue and I believe that Proportional Representation is the only way forward to restore trust and true democracy/
