PLANS to send out 100 hampers to isolated people at Christmas have been agreed by Arthuret Parish Council.

The plan was agreed last week at an online meeting, after it was decided to cancel this year's Christmas party because of the covid-19 restrictions.

Vice chair, councillor Gordon Routledge said: "As you probably know we can't have the actual Christmas party so we are looking at giving hampers to 100 people.

"I'm sure we can do right by the majority of people."

Parish clerk Karen Johnson said it could be done on the basis of people putting their names forward.

Mr Routledge also said they were looking at a number of options for the town's Christmas lights and decorations adding: "It is important we don't drop away from whatever we were doing last year. I think people deserve a decent display - we must do at least as well as last year, if not better."

City councillor Val Tarbitt, said she would contribute from her Small Scale Projects for Elected Members fund.

Another city councillor John Mallinson said he would also contribute if they were "running short".
