As part of our weekly nostalgia feature, we look back at what made the news in 2000 throughout the county.

The turn of the Millennium was a big year worldwide, with many wondering what was in store once we moved out of the 1990s.

Included in the picture feature is Tom Wills, of Kirkbride, receiving a Master Builder of the Year Award from Mayor of Carlisle Ray Knapton for the work his company did on the new Port Carlisle Bowling Club.

Also, we see people enjoyed the Border and District Licensed Victuallers Association's Year 2000 Banquet and Ball which was held at the Shepherd's Inn, Carlisle, which featured entertainment from the Wendy Allen Dancers, the New Orleans Wanderers, Rue and the Rockets and a disco.

The year 2000 also saw pupils at North Cumbria Technology College officially start the final demolition work on the swimming pool building after they received their GCSE results.
