THE increasingly popular Love Lamb Week, initiated by the late Rachel Lumley, a passionate sheep farmer from the district, kicks off its sixth year this week, with industry support greater than ever.

The week-long campaign which runs from September 1 to 7, will for the first time highlight the sustainable qualities lamb brings to the dinner table.

Love Lamb Week was set up in 2015 by Rachel who wanted lamb to get the attention it deserves.Rachel passed away suddenly at the Cumberland Infirmary on July 13.

She was well known throughout Cumbria and neighbouring Tynedale growing up in Blanchland and representing Whitley Chapel Young Farmers’ Club. She also farmed at Hethersgill and in the Eden Valley.Through her leadership, as well as solid external support, Love Lamb Week has caught the attention of top chefs from across the world, as well as national press and broadcast media.
