With the onset of colour television, the business soon became very successful and second premises were bought to sell radios and record players in Abbey Street.

And now 54 years later Peter Tyson has become a household name. Carrying on in their father’s footsteps, the family have grown the business from strength to strength. Their product range leads the way in all audio, TV and home appliances and their expert team have years of knowledge and expertise.

After outgrowing the two city centre shops the decision to move to new premises in Shaddongate gave the family the chance to create a ‘destination store’. The 10,000 square foot showroom is an absolute treat. Not only is the showroom stunning but there is space to hold a very impressive range of top brand products.

Each team member is dedicated to finding out all about the appliances Peter Tyson has to offer. Coffee is always on hand and a designated sitting area on the mezzanine floor is there to chat through and discuss any requirements.

The showroom is also set up for cooking demos. Sitting amongst the fabulous coffee makers, bread makers and kitchen accessories there is also a spacious area to host chef events.

Events are a growing part of the Peter Tyson experience. They have already established two key festivals, the Techfest and Foodfest. Each offers an interactive, fun experience and brings you up to speed with new technologies.

The foodfest also brings together local food producers and the great taste of Cumbria. As for now, Peter Tyson is delighted to be open again for business. They have kept in touch with their customers during the Covid-19 pandemic through social media and their thriving online business.
