BLUEPRINTS to convert the former stables on an historic estate have been submitted.

Carlisle City Council have received plans for the change of use for the barn on the Castletown Estate, Rockcliffe, which were validated on Tuesday.

According to the design and access statement: The application site covers an area of 0.015Ha and is part of the existing courtyard barn complex, on the Castletown Estate, Rockcliffe.

"As part of the application a small private garden/patio area is also to be included which is currently used as a garden area to the main Castletown House."

The building is not listed but is adjacent to the Grade II Listed Castletown House.

It adds: "The proposals involve the conversion an existing two storey building into a new dwelling.

"The proposed development is part of the Castletown traditional farm courtyard complex and is presently used as storage and part of the garden to Castletown House.

"It appears that the building has been used for stabling in the past.
