The danger hotspots for cyclists in Carlisle have been revealed by an interactive map that pinpoints the exact location of the accidents.

Crash Map allows you to see where road accidents across the UK have occurred and the data is sourced from police and government databases.

According to the map, over 145 ‘slight’ ‘serious’ and ‘fatal’ and cycling accidents have occurred in Carlisle between 2015-2019.

The map shows that some roads are more dangerous than others- here are some of the roads with the highest reported cycling accidents.

London Road/ Botchergate is one of the more dangerous roads in Carlisle- one serious accident has taken place on the road between 2015-2019 and 13 ‘slight’ accidents have been reported.

Warwick Road is another dangerous roads, as one serious and three slight accidents have occurred between 2015-2019.

The roundabout between Kingmoor Road and the A689 has also proven to be dangerous as one fatal cycling accident took place here and the cyclist was killed- another 'serious' cycling accident took place nearby.

Although it is a small road, James Street has seen a fair few cycling accidents between 2015-2019- one serious and three slight accidents have been reported.

While no serious or fatal accidents have occurred on Upperby Road, three cycling accidents have occurred in the exact same spot at the junction between St Ninians Road and Upperby Road.

Another dangerous junction is where Borrowdale Road meets Dunmail Drive- two serious accidents have occurred at this junction.

Where did the most cycling accidents occur in 2019?

In 2019 alone, over 15 ‘serious’ and ‘slight’ accidents have occurred in Carlisle.

One serious accident occurred on Metcalfe Street and another occurred on the junction between Shady Grove Road and Brookside.

The road with the most ‘slight’ accidents was the A7- four were reported in 2019.
