Workington's Carnegie theatre and arts centre has held a music centre summer school for three days this week.

They began on Monday and it will run to Wednesday. 17 students are taking part aged from eight to 16. They have been split into groups and have been collaborating to make music together.

The young people have experienced sessions in steel drumming, Samba drum, ukulele, guitar, and keyboard.

Students will also have a chance to perform some of the music to their parents. This will not be available to the general public.

A spokesman from the Carnegie said: "Carnegie Music Centre had to stop in March in line with the nationwide lockdown when the venue was closed, but this week, it has been a pleasure for Café Carnegie patrons to hear the sounds of live music throughout the building again."

The theatre at the Carnegie will remain closed for the foreseeable future, the Carnegie Theatre Trust hope that a range of classes, which will include adult music making classes, will resume in September, but will be dependent on Government guidelines.
