Carlisle East fire station were called out twice last night to avoidable fires.
At 10.32pm on August 8 the crew attended a wheelie bin fire in Warwick Square, where the flames were extinguished using a hosereel. This took them around 30 minutes.
Then at 00.39am they were mobilised to a fire in the open at the bottom of Locke Road, Carlisle.
This turned out to be a controlled burn, however the fire was giving off acrid and toxic smoke, so the crew put out the flames with a hosereel and one set of breathing apparatus.
Fire fighters were in attendance for approximately one hour.
