Owners of a Carlisle pub have been given the all clear to reopen after one of their team was found to have coronavirus.

The Sally in Irthington was closed temporarily by the owners as a precaution on August 7, after one of the staff tested positive for Covid-19.

The team member had contracted the virus off the premises at a gathering held last weekend.

All team members were tested for the virus and results have all come back negative.

The pub has been working with environmental health, who are happy for the pub to reopen again.

One of the owners, Shaun Gardner, said: "Environmental health are happy for us to go ahead. They are satisfied we have everything in place and with all our policies and working processes. The pub was already clean, but our cleaner has resanitized again this morning.

"Obviously it is of paramount importance to us to keep all our staff and customers safe and we will do moving forward."

The pub will be open for business as usual from 3pm today (August 8).

All dinner and room reservations will take place as arranged.

The owners said on their Facebook site: "Please be assured we have had nothing but positive comments about the procedures we have put in place and the safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff are at the forefront of every decision we make."

"The Sally still remains Covid safe and the team member contracted the virus outside of the business. We wish this member of the team a swift and speedy recovery."
