Despite lockdown separating families and friends, one woman has been praised for her efforts in bringing people together.

Kirsty Barton has been nominated for the News & Star's Person of the Week, for going above and beyond to make life easier for others.

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Kirsty has rallied her fitness troops together virtually.

Karen Bell nominated Kirsty and said: “In a time when we are unable to get together and do the things we enjoy, Kirsty has gone above and beyond.

“She has managed to create not just a group but a pilates family.

“Prior to lockdown, Kirsty ran pilates classes at a couple of different venues, however due to Covid-19 these all had to be halted.

“She set up some sessions remotely, for the group to keep a bit of normality during these difficult times."

Karen continued: “Kirsty felt it was important that we could continue to have access to something we all enjoy, to help us both mentally and physical.

“The demand and popularity for these sessions have grown and the sessions now have more than 110 attendees each week.

“The sessions are made even more enjoyable due to random appearances for the rest of the Barton family.

“Betty the lovable dog and of course her daughter Pixie who recently made an appearance as Peter Pan.

“Each week, Kirsty is pushing us to improve, she motivates us to do more than we ever thought we could achieve.

“A couple of months ago, one of her pilates students was expecting her first baby and was on her own due to her partner living in Denmark.

"Kirsty used the power and spirit of the group to set up a collection for her to help her feel better in a difficult situation.

“I know I speak for everyone in the group of how special and privileged we all feel to be part of this.

"Everyone is strong, determined and supportive of each other, which would not have been possible without Kirsty creating it and continuing to motivate us all.

“This is just a snapshot of some of the things she has done I could create a long list but it would be never ending for this special lady.”
