THE SETTING up of an evangelical church in a Brampton industrial unit has moved a step closer.

Carlisle City Council has received an application for further work on Unit 10 in the Townfoot Industrial estate, which includes improving the “aesthetic of the existing building by adding painted render to the elevations.”

Permission had previously been given for Bethesda Evangelical Church, based on Main Street, to turn the unit into a “place of worship” in January 2019.

According to the previous Design and Access Statement the church wants to: “Grow and to offer a valuable community service for the residents of Brampton and surrounding villages.

“It is recognised that there are few facilities for the young and elderly in Brampton and as the town grows it is vital that these facilities also grow to accommodate the increase in population.

“The chapel building is now too small for the numbers of people that use the building and offers no parking facilities.”

No objections, to the latest plans, were raised at a parish council meeting on July 28.
