A singer and entertainer from Cumbria has made a lasting impression on one of the country’s most popular television quiz shows after a repeat was shown on Friday evening.

Mick Locke, who is known by stage name Micky Diamond, managed to bag the highest offer ever made on ITV’s The Chase when the chaser offered him a whopping £100,000.

The 53-year-old from Carlisle appeared on the show on Friday evening in a repeat of an episode from 2016.

He said: “It was a complete surprise. I came home from work and I was just on Facebook when I got a message from my sister saying I was on TV again.

“I didn’t realise. It was on ITV.”

Mick was the only one of the four contestants who managed to beat the chaser in the head-to-head multiple choice section, choosing to play for the £100,000 prize money.

Guesswork was key for Mick during the multiple choice section as he played for the biggest amount ever offered.

He said: “The key question was the Michelangelo one, because of Carlisle.

“I was asked which celebrated Renaissance artist was 88 when he died.

“I chose Michelangelo because it’s the name of one of the restaurants in Carlisle that I like.”

Since the show the singer has been offered a meal, free of charge, by the restaurant.

Since his surprise reappearance on the show on Friday Mick has had an array of messages.

He said: “I’ve had so many people message me.

“I’ve had people saying it was one of the best episodes they’d ever seen and someone saying it had given their wife a real boost.”

Mick described being on the show as “like a dream”.

“It was such a laugh,” he said. “I was really enjoying myself. It was all happening so fast. But I’ve done something very impressive.”

The hit quiz show pits contestants against a professional quizzer, known as the chaser. The chaser attempts to prevent them from winning a cash prize by catching them up by answering more questions correctly than the contestant.

Ultimately Micky didn’t win the £100,000 as he was beaten by the chaser in the final play-off.
