The manager of a new budget hotel set to open in Workington today, said it was an exciting time for the team.

Travelodge is due to open its doors to customers in Workington at the newly-built site opposite Allerdale House.

Lyndsay Wright, hotel manager, said: “We are very excited to open in Workington and be the town’s first branded budget hotel.

“This hotel opening also cements our presence across all corners of the Lake District area.

“My team and I have been working around the clock to get our hotel ready so that we can welcome guests from Monday.

“We are geared up for a very busy summer season.

“With Covid-19 safety measures at the forefront of our business, we have worked closely with our hotel teams that stayed open during the lockdown, government and industry bodies to develop our new Covid-19 safety programme called TravelodgeProtect+.

“This safety programme is designed to keep our customers and teams safe and has been implemented into all Travelodge hotels and also features in our new Workington Travelodge hotel.”

The Workington site, which has 78 rooms, also features an on-site restaurant called the Bar-Café.

All rooms feature a king-size bed, which sits within a mood lighting surround and has spacious bedside shelves featuring charging ports.

All family rooms include two individual beds for children.

The rooms feature an en-suite bathroom, power shower, a 32 inch Freeview TV, free in-room tea and coffee making facilities and access to Wi-Fi.

The hotel giant operates 589 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain.

It also operates nine Cumbrian hotels.

The company’s Covid-secure systems include the use of an antiviral disinfectant across the building; thermally disinfected towels and linen; monitoring of the number of customers in areas such as reception and the lifts.

To minimise contact, housekeeping team members will not enter customers' rooms during their stay.
