Plans to build a new estate have been submitted to develop an “eyesore” patch of land – and residents are eager to see the submission get the go-ahead.

Although the proposal has still yet to be discussed by councillors, it is believed that many Mirehouse residents are hopeful to see the plans approved.

Submitted by Home Group earlier this month, the proposal outlines building 18 homes on the junction of Meadow Road and Uldale Road.

It is stated in the application that, as with any housing development, all necessary drainage and external works will also be completed.

And councillor Carl Walmsley, who represents Mirehouse East ward, is all for the plans being approved as the two- and three-bedroom homes will transform an “eyesore” strip of land into something useful and needed.

“Personally I say the sooner the better as it’s been a bit of wasteland and a eyesore for a good while now,” he said.

“I’ve heard of no complaints or objections from the residents regarding the plans.

“I think the majority would rather see some new housing there as a nice first impression of our estate driving in from town, than a muddy patch with piles of rubble.”

David Armstrong, senior delivery manager for Home Group in Cumbria, said: “Following the success of our recent re-development at Royal Drive in Egremont – a first of its kind in Cumbria, using state of the art modular houses, we are delighted to have submitted our application to deliver another 18 modular two- and three-bedroom homes in the same style. Customer feedback on the homes in Egremont has been great.

“We are also pleased to be using the same construction team to deliver the scheme, with the houses again being produced and installed by ILKE homes, with the foundations, drainage and other groundworks being installed by local company Ashcroft Demolition.

“Planning approval is anticipated in September with works hopefully then commencing on site in October”
