There’s no doubt that Cumbria is a stunning place- which is why many movie producers and directors have chosen it as the backdrop in their movies.

From cult-classic horror, 28 Days Later, to the space blockbuster Star Wars, here are five films you might not have known were filmed right here in Cumbria.

28 Days Later (2002)

Horror movie fans might be surprised to know that this Danny Boyle classic was filmed just an hour away from Carlisle.

The ending scenes were filmed in the countryside of Ennerdale.

Miss Potter (2007)

This film explores the early life of Beatrix Potter- and much of the film was actually shot in Cumbria.

The Lake District was one of the film’s main filming locations. Yew Tree Farm in Coniston was Beatrix Potter’s house.

The Loss of Sexual Innocence (1999)

It may be an intergalactic movie set in a galaxy far, far away- but some scene were shot right on our doorstep.

Derwentwater in Cumbria features in the movie, during the approach to Maz Kanata’s Castle.

Snow White and the Huntsman

A-listers Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart have been on Cumbrian soil while they filmed this movie.

Scenes involving rock caves were shot at Cathedral Quarries in the Lake District.
