With the rise of internet shopping and fierce competition in city centers, store closures are inevitable.

However, that doesn’t make it any easier when our favourite shops are forced to close down.

Here are some stores we visited in the 90s that just don’t exist anymore

Woolworths

‘Woolies’ is a shop that many people across the UK miss. Before John Lewis started creating their iconic Christmas adverts, Woolworths were the kings of Christmas.

It truly was a shop that sold everything, including children’s clothes, CDs and even pick 'n' mix.

Woolworths opened in 1916 on Worcester High Street and closed in 2009.

Blockbuster

Before the days of online streaming, movie nights started here. Now, choosing a DVD or video off the shelf is a nostalgic memory.

Blockbuster went into administration in 2010 and slowly began to disappear from our highstreets.

Blockbuster in Warndon closed in 2013 and is currently a Dominos Pizza.

Wise Owl Toys

This much-loved shop has been around for 26 years- initially, it opened as a ‘left handed’ shop, but later became a traditional toy shop.

Sadly, the store announced their closure this year (2020) after the owners decided it was time to retire.

Thompsons

This discount electrical store had a branch in The Shambles, Worcester.

It announced its closure in 2016 after lasting more than 30 years in the city centre.

Nevitt Lighting

Based in Broad Street, this was a family-run business that had been trading in Worcester for more than 50 years.

The lighting business announced its closure earlier this year (2020).
