A Cleator Moor man has been airlifted to hospital in serious condition following a fire in Cleator Moor.

Cumbria Police, the Great North Air Ambulance and the North West Ambulance service were called out to a house fire this morning at Ehen Road, Cleator Moor.

The Great North Air Ambulance mobilised at 8.29 this morning and were at the scene with a paramedic and a doctor on board 20 minutes later.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "A man, 40, was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle following the fire. He is in a serious condition."

"Officers will work with Cumbria Fire and Rescue service to investigate the cause of the fire. It is not thought to be suspicious at this time."
