A controlled explosion has been carried out at Eskmeals beach.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was alerted to the beach by Millom Coastguard Rescue Team.
Millom Coastguard had received a call out on July 12 at 10.54am, following reports of suspicious items found on the sand.
Due to prior calls the EOD team were unable to attend until the following morning.
The suspicious items were identified as ordnance.
The EOD identified that some of the items were live and they were disposed of by means of controlled explosion.
Ordnance regularly washes up on our shores, and the coastguard advises that the public should be careful if they notice anything unfamiliar.
If something unusual is spotted on the beach, the public should call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
A team will be sent to identify the article and the appropriate action will then be taken.
