MOUNTAIN rescue teams had to be called after a 62-year-old man injured his head in a fall.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue were called at about 4.10pm on Tuesday to Dore Head Screes after the man fell about 30 metres while descending the washed-out scree slope.

With no further information on the severity of his injury but with it potentially being serious on difficult, steep, loose ground which would have required a dangerous stretcher carry, a coastguard helicopter was called for straight away.

As the team was leaving Wasdale Head a report came in that the casualty had recovered sufficiently to be able to walk down and he was met by team members not far above Ritson’s Force.

The helicopter was stood down as it was about 20 minutes out and the team returned to base.

The call-out took 22 members and a helicopter from Caernarfon two hours and 10 minutes.
