Captain Tom, the NHS and even Zoom calls were all featured in a topical village scarecrow competition.
Chairman of the Flimby Carnival Committee, which organises the annual competition said the turnout this year was “fantastic.”
She said: “The number and quality was great. I think people had more time this year because of the lockdown and the things that have become important to us were the things that were a big part of this year’s competition.”
The Flimby Children’s Carnival was cancelled in July becaue of the lockdown.
Organisers had hoped to have a fund day for village children in September but secretary Karen Markham said the committee was waiting for Government guidance before a decision could be made on whether to go ahead.
The scarecrow competition was judged by Maryport Peter Kendall and Miss Tindall.
Mr Kendall said: “I have been truly impressed [- not only by the standard of the scarecrows but how up-to-date and topical they were.So much work must have gone into them.”
Although special prizes were awarded, every scarecrow received something, organisers said.
Results were:
TV programmes: Featherstone family’s Malificent 1, Humpty Dumpty 2 and Minion 2.
