Shoppers in Whitehaven and Egremont are in for a boost this weekend as the council is offering free car parking.

They hope that it will boost the high street's recovery.

In addition to the car parks that are usually free, Copeland Borough Council has said that it will make a further 13 car parks available free of charge.

This will apply to town centre car parks at the weekends until the end of July.

In Whitehaven this will include car parks at: School House Lane, Senhouse Street, Sports Centre, The Beacon Museum, North Shore, Copeland Centre, The Ginns (which is free every weekend on a permanent basis) and at Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners’ car parks Quay Street North, Quay Street South, Tangier Street and Queens Dock. The multi-story is excluded.

In Egremont there will be free car parks at Beck Green and Chapel Street.
