An applicatioN to turn a former carpet showroom into a 24-hour gym has been lodged.

Eden District Council has received an application for the change of use at the Arches on Victoria Road, Penrith.

The proposal was received on June 23 and a consultation will run until July 27.

According to the Design and Access Statement: “The proposal is for a town centre gym.

“No external changes are proposed to the building, with only maintenance to the windows if required, and as such, the appearance will remain the same as existing.

“The gym is proposed to allow 24-hour access to cater for all users, utilising a fob system for access – this is ever growing in popularity with numerous gyms in Carlisle providing this service.”
